The Monroe Community College Foundation’s mission is to ensure every student has access to education. And a major item on the foundation’s calendar is its annual Gold Star Gala, a larger-than-life event that raises money specifically to support MCC scholarships.
Since 2014, MCCF has turned to Dixon Schwabl to create a night of big entertainment, big turnout and even bigger generosity. The event needs to solicit sponsorships and corporate donations, so stunning creative and hands-on appeal are at the top of the to-do list.
Our goal: Entice the area’s most generous philanthropists to attend a big-ticket fundraising event and support MCC students.
The Gold Star Gala’s highly-sought-after audience receives dozens of invitations each year. Ours need to charm these in-demand folks while also bringing to life each year’s signature theme. For 2020, that meant creating an aura of mystery and danger, with Moroccan spice and modern style. Plus one additional challenge: The in-person gala was canceled with the arrival of COVID-19.
As true partners, Dixon Schwabl and MCCF put our heads together. The result? A virtual event that invited the college’s top donors to don their Moroccan-inspired best for an online gala that mixed the usual all-out excitement with 2020 social distancing.
the event stayed in theme.
A virtual click-through invitation gave guests quick and easy access to the event, and a welcome video and special cocktail recipe greeted them as they signed on to support student success.
Once the event was in full swing, Dixon Schwabl helped guide the night, creating a seamless and successful virtual Moroccan affair.
The MCCF Foundation pulled off a big last-minute switch to a virtual gala and raised $220,000 (net) during its 2020 online cocktail hour and scholarship call. The funds raised will directly support MCC student scholarships, setting up our community’s brightest for success.
