Dixon Schwabl held its annual DS Open golf tournament in September and raised more than $12,000 to benefit four local charities:
Janie Argenta ’82 Memorial Endowed Scholarship fund at SUNY Geneseo
This scholarship is awarded each year to deserving students pursuing a career in public relations. Its namesake is Jane Argenta, our former VP of public relations, who exemplified the very best of our agency and industry. After a battle with cancer, she passed away far too soon. The DS Open honors her gung-ho spirit and supports up-and-coming talent in our field, just as she did.
Created in memory our friend and colleague Sarah Lynn Jones, Sarah’s Hope honors her positive spirit by raising funds to impact our community and the causes that influenced Sarah. In all aspects of life, Sarah strove to drive change in the world. The Jones family decided to continue this dream in her honor with the creation of Sarah’s Hope.
Golisano Children’s Hospital
In honor of Wyatt Monacelli, our colleague Julianna’s brave 5-year-old, who is fighting acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Part of our proceeds benefited UR Medicine’s Golisano Children’s Hospital, the area’s only children’s hospital, serving as the referral center for all seriously ill or injured children from the 17-county Finger Lakes region.
Pluta Cancer Center
In honor of Lynne Tempest—our colleague and recent breast cancer survivor—our final beneficiary is Wilmot Cancer Institute’s Pluta Cancer Center. The center is known for its compassionate care and is home to a renowned multidisciplinary breast cancer program, Comprehensive Breast Care at Pluta. Pluta Cancer Center has been helping patients with cancer and their families since 1975.
