American Heart Association Honors Dixon Schwabl for 10 Years of Commitment

Aha Award 7 26 17

This morning, the Dixon Schwabl team received a special visit from our friends at the American Heart Association to present Lauren Dixon, Mike Schwabl and the entire DS team with the #DSRocks awards for a decade of continued commitment to the American Heart Association.

This past year, Mike and Lauren served as event co-chairs for the American Heart Association’s Rochester Heart Walk & Run, helping lead the event to a $780,000 fundraising total. The Dixon Schwabl team raised more than $10,000 for the event through various fundraisers, including a Valentine’s Day cookie-cake sale, a guest bartending event and personal fundraising.

As co-chairs, Lauren and Mike also joined forces with the American Heart Association and East Upper & Lower Schools to build East’s first Teaching Garden. The initiative aims to improve overall heart health, re-establish what it means to be healthy and provide a hands-on learning experience for East’s culinary students, who are responsible for maintaining and caring for the 2,050-square-foot garden. The garden includes vegetables, fruits, herb planters, perennials, sunflower patches, rain barrels and more.
